Ondo Govt Sacks Royal Life Savings of Nigeria for fraud. Then threatens them like a toothless bulldog ?

Ondo State Government has ordered the proprietor of a private organisation, Royal Life Savings of Nigeria, which collected over N2 million from about 120 unsuspecting unemployed youths for phony jobs out of the state.
Full report here.
You are thinking nothing is wrong with that.  Actually, there is a ton wrong.
Listen to this bit.
The Special Adviser to the State Governor on Political Matters, Mr Boluwaji Kunlere said the body must in addition refund the money to the victims or face prosecution.
Kunlere, according to a statement by the Special Assistant to the Governor (Media), Mr. Akinwale Oshodi handed down the state government's order to the organisation while addressing the victims in Akure .
So the government accepts a criminality has occurred.

Two, the government has enough connections to the organisation as to know who to arrest for the illegality.

But rather than open the right pages of the country's law books and apply it against these mindless fraudsters, the government chooses to threaten them with a request-for-refund or prosecution.

It borders on outright silliness. However  you look at it, it is cheer timidity.

It should not matter whether or not these Royal Life Savings  people refunds the money they obtained via fraud, crimes had been committed;

They should be facing the maximum weight of the law.

Of what use is the state's plethora of staff in the ministry of Justice, the Attorney General and tens of others, if they cannot bring fraudsters to book, if for nothing else, but deterrence ?

The Deji of Akure KO: Mr. Oluwadare Adesina removed.

The Deji of Akure - Mr. Oluwadare Adesina has been removed by the Ondo state government per the breaking news report here.

If that is true, then thumbs up to the state government for acting positively as necessary, even if a little slow.

And that will be 50% of the job. Let's see a criminal in court please.

Question of the week: Where is the Dome ?

Sometime in January this year, there was this report in the Compass Newspapers,  detailing how the Ondo state government is to build and  commission THE DOME.

It is really not necessary to begin on the question of whether this was a sensible use of money, then or now.

The report had  the following visualisation to boot.

 From the piece:

The [Dome]project, located on a large expanse of about 34 hectares of land, is being handled by Messrs Dream Media Network Limited and
will be completed in the next five months.

Governor Mimiko explains at the time:

...the construction of the  centre, which would cost the government a sum of N1.5 billion,  would encompass 2,500 capacity hall and other complementary facilities  to make it competes with any of such centre in the world.

Now that June is here, this structure should be nearing completion. Has anyone seen it ?  Have you seen it ?

And when is the commissioning - as is the usual rite -  taking place ?

Quote of the Day: The Police on the Deji's Box-fest.

"The Ondo State Police Command has also come out with the report of a preliminary investigation into the royal street fight.

The result showed that the monarch committed a criminal offence.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mr. Aremu Adeniran, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, explained in a statement in Akure that a high powered investigation team set up by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Magaji Nasarawa, had since submitted its interim report.

He said, "The matter is purely a criminal case and not a domestic affair as being insinuated in some quarters." Adeniran said the matter had been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department and that the outcome will be made public as soon as it was concluded."

Petition to the Governor, Ondo state government: The need to show committment to the rule of law by Prosecuting Mr. Oluwadare Adepoju Adesina.

Dear Governor R. Mimiko,

As I am sure you are aware, the sitting Deji of Akureland - Mr. Oluwadare Adepoju Adesina has been in the news over the last few hours, on account of some of the most upsetting mis-use of royal power.

The report of events as published by 234Next (http://bit.ly/bmIMry) - actions of the Mr. Adesina, drives any self respecting citizen of Ondo state, to the very peak of dumbfounded speechlessness, 'face-in-the-hands' at the same time. The definition of egregious shame!

I do not hazard, that the English dictionary possess the depth with which to capture the height of Mr. Adesina's reported criminality - to his supposed wife, a member of the weaker sex.

It is our considered opinion that given the total and inexcusable degree of disrepute Mr. Adepoju has unleashed on all citizens of Ondo state, not to mention, his previously respected office, he has lost the moral authority with which  to continue to hold that office.

In addition, It is imperative that the necessary departments of the Ondo state government and Nigeria Police are authorised  and adequately energised to ensure that, in line with your government's vision:

To make Ondo State the best-administered State in Nigeria and the cynosure of all eyes, of which all its citizens shall be proud; where equity, justice, and fairness shall be the driving forces of governmental action”.

that no criminality is promoted, defended or protected.

It goes without saying, that it is in the utmost interest of Justice, that where a crime has been committed, that the state shall ensure the right punishment. Also, the need for justice, to be done, and seen to be done, aligns fully the precept of Equity - that no wrong shall be left, without a remedy.

We hereby communicate the need to show commitment to the rule of Law - in consonance with President Goodluck Jonathan's Federal posture, by prosecuting Mr. Oluwadare Adepoju Adesina immediately.

Trusting you to deploy the machinery of your good offices, to ensure that the people of Akure, and Ondo state at large can have restored faith, that the highest members of their leadership class are not predisposed to reckless open-air or closed-doors abuse of power.

Truly Yours,

Omoekun.
